Gold Coast woman dies after hit by golf cart

Cook County sheriff's police were investigating the death of a 78-year-old Gold Coast woman who died Sunday after being struck by a golf cart at a south suburban country club.

Barbara Zoub, of the 00-100 block of East Superior St., was at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Hwy. in Flossmoor, Sunday when she was struck by a golf cart, according to a spokeswoman for the Cook County medical examiner's office.

According to longtime friends and business associates, Zoub was a well-known residential real estate broker at Rubloff Residential Properties who focused on high-end residential properties on the Gold Coast and in Old Town and Lincoln Park.

She was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m.

Flossmoor police said Cook County sheriff's police were investigating and would only say that the incident happened Sunday afternoon. A Cook County sheriff's spokeswoman said she did not yet have details about the incident. Idlewild officials did not return telephone calls seeking comment.

The woman's family refused to comment.

Darlene Little, executive vice president at Rubloff, said that in the last few years Zoub had scaled back her work and was an avid golfer and tennis player. She said she heard about the accident from a mutual friend.

"It's horrible that she passed away, but here she was on the golf course doing what she loved to do,'' Little said. "It's a very, very sad thing."

Little said she knew Zoub for about 16 years, beginning when Zoub hired Little to work for her at a previous firm she started in the 1980s with four other women. She said Zoub joined Rubloff in 2004.

"She gave me my break in real estate,'' said Little. "She's [had] a wonderful way with people in finding them homes."

She said Zoub was survived by a son and daughter.
